Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Or, on a pale wavy Azure a sword of the first. Attached below the shield a Black scroll inscribed "THE FLOW OF VICTORY" in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Gold stands for the branch color, buff, of the Quartermaster Corps. The pale and color blue refer to the battalion's water supply mission. The sword denotes readiness and service to the individual soldier. Black stands for strength and steadfastness.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved effective 16 June 1993.

From a wreath Or and Buff, issuant from a mural crown Gules mortared of the first, a demi-griffin Sable armed and garnished Or, grasping a fleur-de-lis Azure.

Symbolism

Shield

Buff represents the Quartermaster Corps. The wavy pale and the color blue refer to the water supply mission of the unit. The sword denotes readiness and service to the individual soldier. Gold stands for excellence.

Crest

The campaign service of the unit in World War II is recalled by the mural crown, for Central Europe and the Rhineland, and the fleur-de-lis for Northern France and Normandy. The griffin stands for vigilance and early responsiveness to the needs of the Quartermaster mission. Black denotes strength and resolve. Red signifies courage and sacrifice; blue refers to the 559th's water supply mission.
